Usha Vance welcomes baby boy, her fourth child with JD Vance
The Vance family said Alec Neel Vance was born Sunday morning and that both mother and baby are healthy.

Second lady Usha Vance gave birth Sunday to a baby boy, adding a fourth child to the family of Vice President JD Vance.
The vice president’s office announced the birth on X, sharing a statement from the Vance family that named the newborn Alec Neel Vance.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,” the family said in the statement posted on X. “Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
Usha Vance, 40, and JD Vance already have three children, two boys and a girl, who are between ages 4 and 9, according to Today.
A rare White House family milestone
The birth makes Usha Vance the first woman since the 1870s to have a baby while her husband is serving as vice president, according to Axios.
The couple announced in January that they were expecting their fourth child and said at the time that the baby was due in late July, NBC News reported.
JD Vance had previously said, while promoting his book this year, that he was unlikely to take parental leave after the baby arrived, according to NBC News.
The family announcement comes during a busy stretch for the vice president and second lady, who NBC News has reported are considering leasing a home in Middleburg, Virginia, in addition to the vice presidential residence at the Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. The Secret Service is planning added security for the rural property, according to that report.
How the couple discussed baby No. 4
JD Vance spoke publicly in March about the family’s decision to have another child during a White House event in Michigan, according to NBC News.
“I remember when we decided to run for vice president, I said, ‘Honey, I really want to have a fourth kid.’ And she said, ‘Well, you can become vice president or you can have a fourth baby,’” Vance said at the event. “But, ladies and gentlemen, I am persuasive, because I got both.”
Later that month, Usha Vance told NBC News that her husband had persuaded her to have a fourth child, while also saying she had “never closed the door on that.”
She said that after the birth of their daughter, she had believed the family might be complete. Over time, she told NBC News, she became increasingly open to another baby.
“And so if there was a chance, I should take it, and I knew that I’d be happy if we only had three kids, and I knew that I’d be happy if we had four. And so here we are,” Usha Vance said in the interview.
JD Vance, who is 40, could run for president in 2028, NBC News has reported. For now, the family’s newest headline is much smaller and much louder: a newborn boy at home.
