A Canada goose found with a rusty metal ring around its bill has been released after treatment in Pennsylvania, according to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center.

The bird, the focus of the goose metal ring released rescue, was spotted in downtown York in September. UPI reported that residents saw it walking on a sidewalk looking dazed and distressed, then noticed blood and that something was wrong with its bill.

People who found the goose took it to Raven Ridge Wildlife Center in Lancaster County, the center said in a social-media update reported by UPI.

How was the goose with a metal ring rescued?

The wildlife center said a rusty ring was lodged around the lower part of the goose's bill. It said the object had been there for an extended period, leaving worn wounds and cuts around the bird's mouth.

According to the center, the goose was thin and severely dehydrated, which it attributed to the bird's difficulty eating and drinking while the ring was in place. The center did not say how the ring became stuck or give a date or location for the release.

Staff removed the ring, cleaned blood from the bird and examined it for other injuries, the center said. After a warm-water bath, the goose began drinking fresh water, floating and grooming its chest feathers, according to the update.

The center said the bird made a full recovery and was returned to the wild. UPI reported the release on Oct. 30.
