SeaWorld San Diego has welcomed two female marine mammal babies in less than a week, according to UPI and the park: a California sea lion pup born June 15 and a bottlenose dolphin calf born June 21.

The dolphin calf is already meeting visitors. SeaWorld San Diego said she is on public display with her mother, Sofi, and her grandmother, Sandy.

According to the park, the young dolphin is nursing well and has begun learning and exploring alongside her family group.

Sea lion pup staying behind the scenes

The sea lion pup is not yet on public view. SeaWorld San Diego said she is spending time behind the scenes with Phoenix, her first-time mother.

The park said the pup is expected to make her public debut in the coming months. No exact date was announced in the report.

The two births give the San Diego park a pair of new arrivals from different marine mammal species, with one already visible to guests and the other still in an early bonding period away from the public.

UPI reported the births July 14 in its Odd News section. The report identified both newborns as female.
