AMC Entertainment shares jumped more than 20% in early Monday trading after the theater giant reported the biggest quarterly revenue haul in its 106-year history and packed houses for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
The company said revenue for the three months ended in June rose 14% from the same period in 2025 to nearly $1.6 billion. Adjusted EBITDA, a measure of earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization, climbed 70% to a record $321 million, according to the company’s quarterly figures.
AMC also reported a sharper cash performance. Net cash from operations increased to $235 million from $138 million, while free cash flow came in at $190 million. The chain ended the quarter with $778 million in cash and cash equivalents.
The bottom line was still in the red. AMC posted a net loss of $11.4 million, compared with a loss of $4.7 million in the year-earlier period.
B. Riley Securities analyst Drew Crumb called the results encouraging, writing of the latest numbers: “While there’s still more work to do here, this was a source of hope.”
Debt pressure eases, Aron says
Chief executive Adam Aron said both the U.S. and Europe showed strong progress, and said the company “has often been underestimated.” AMC’s finances have been closely watched since the Covid shutdowns battered theaters and the later writers’ and actors’ strikes squeezed the exhibition business again.
AMC’s debt load made that pressure heavier, and Deadline reported that some in the industry and on Wall Street had spent years expecting a Chapter 11 filing.
Aron said AMC refinanced $400 million of debt during the second quarter, pushing maturities out by four years. He also said the company raised about $285 million through equity offerings and began reducing about $282 million of debt.
By the end of July, Aron said balance-sheet actions taken since the end of 2020 will have cut principal debt balances by about $1.7 billion. He said the company does not currently expect debt maturities until 2029.
The Odyssey delivers at the box office
The weekend boost came from Universal’s The Odyssey, Nolan’s latest epic, which opened to $264 million worldwide. Aron said on a call after the earnings release that 4.3 million people went to AMC and Odeon theaters from Thursday through Sunday.
AMC’s broader second-quarter attendance also improved. Total attendance rose 13.5% from the year-earlier quarter, including a 12% gain domestically and an 18% rise internationally, according to the company figures.
The chain operated fewer screens on average, with 9,249 during the quarter compared with 9,402 a year earlier. Food, beverage and merchandise sales rose 15% worldwide.
AMC remains a closely watched name for retail traders after its run as a meme stock. Deadline reported that over the past 52 weeks, the stock has moved from below $1 at its low to above $3 at its high.
