Annabel Scholey is heading into lockdown at the State Opening of Parliament.

The British actor, recently seen in Disney+ series Rivals, has joined Netflix’s upcoming thriller The Lord’s Day, according to Variety. The six-part series is now in production in the U.K. and stars F1 actor Damson Idris.

Variety reports that Scholey, also known for the BBC drama The Split, will play a key role in the series. Further details about her character have not been disclosed.

The Lord’s Day is based on Michael Dobbs’ 2007 novel of the same name. The Netflix adaptation puts Idris at the center of a Westminster crisis, with his character, British spy Harry Jones, trapped inside Parliament during a lockdown on the day of the State Opening.

According to Netflix’s official description cited by Variety, the siege intensifies as loyalties come under pressure, sacrifices are made and a fight for survival unfolds. The logline asks whether Harry can use his skills and training to save the country.

A packed British cast

Scholey joins a cast that already includes Harry Lawtey, known for Industry and Joker: Folie à Deux, and Arsema Thomas, whose credits include Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story and She Taught Love.

The ensemble also features Sophie Willan of Alma’s Not Normal and Ludwig, Gemma Whelan of Game of Thrones and Killing Eve, and Timothy Spall, whose recent work includes The Sixth Commandment and Goodbye June.

For Scholey and Spall, the Netflix thriller marks another shared credit. Variety notes that both appeared in the BBC true-crime drama The Sixth Commandment, which won the BAFTA for best limited drama.

Bad Wolf behind the thriller

The Lord’s Day is produced by Bad Wolf, the company behind Industry, His Dark Materials and The Other Bennett Sister. Variety also notes that Bad Wolf recently co-produced the last two seasons of Doctor Who.

Idris is not only leading the cast. He is also an executive producer on the series, alongside Jane Tranter and Dan McCulloch for Bad Wolf, lead writers Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley, and director Ben Chanan.

Scholey’s recent screen work includes a lead role in Channel 4 drama The Couple Next Door. She also appeared in Janis Pugh’s Welsh romantic comedy-musical Chuck Chuck Baby, which won the BAFTA Cymru award for best feature or TV film, according to Variety.

Netflix has not announced a release date for The Lord’s Day.
