Ben Shapiro turned a discussion of Lindsey Graham’s death into a ZipRecruiter ad read within seconds, according to video from his YouTube podcast highlighted by TMZ.

The conservative commentator was speaking about the response to Graham’s sudden death when he shifted into a paid promotion for the hiring platform. The bridge between the two topics was time: Shapiro told listeners that talk of mortality and the passing of time is a reminder that people do not have time to waste.

He then extended that idea to business, saying the same urgency applies at work. From there, the segment moved into the sponsor message for ZipRecruiter.

In the clip, Shapiro also brought up his own family life, saying he had just welcomed his fifth child. He used that point to say he did not have time to waste as a father, then posed the hiring problem the ad was meant to answer.

TMZ reported that Shapiro had been criticizing some Democrats for their reactions to Graham’s death before the ad transition. The outlet also noted that the moment drew attention to the ZipRecruiter promotion because of the abrupt change in subject.

What Shapiro said in the clip

According to the video, Shapiro said: “Whenever you talk about mortality or the passage of time it’s a big reminder that you don’t have time to waste ... and that’s also true when it comes to your business.”

That line became the handoff into the sponsor read. Shapiro then connected the theme to being a parent of five and to saving time while hiring, before presenting ZipRecruiter as the answer.

The ad segment aired on Shapiro’s podcast, which is distributed through YouTube. TMZ identified the clip as coming from YouTube and Ben Shapiro’s show.

Graham’s death remains the backdrop

Graham’s death has continued to draw public reaction. TMZ has separately reported on emergency dispatch audio, citing CNN and Broadcastify.com, that pointed to chest pains before his death.

The outlet has also reported that there was no new evidence suggesting foul play, citing a source, and that Graham’s sister, Darline Graham, was appointed to fill his Senate seat.

Shapiro has not been reported by TMZ as issuing any separate comment about the ad transition beyond what appears in the podcast clip.
