Sony has put Skeletons, a new creature horror film starring Brie Larson, on the summer 2027 calendar, Deadline reported.

The studio has dated the movie for June 4, 2027, giving the Bad Robot-backed project a prime early-summer slot. The film comes from director JT Mollner and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions, with FilmNation Entertainment and Assemble Media also behind the production, according to Deadline.

Larson, an Oscar winner, leads a cast that also includes Kyle Gallner, Daithí Ó hAragáin, John Goodman, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye and Keith Carradine.

A family secret with a monster-movie twist

Deadline describes Skeletons as a creature horror story told through the eyes of a young boy. As the plot unfolds, the child begins to understand that the parents he loves are keeping a grim secret tied to his mother’s real nature.

The screenplay’s first draft was written by Brian Duffield, Deadline reported. The film is based on a short story by Phillip Fracassi, with Mollner later making revisions to the script.

Mollner is working with Bad Robot on the project after directing Strange Darling. Abrams is producing through Bad Robot, adding the movie to the company’s run of studio genre projects.

Who is producing Skeletons

The producing team includes Drew Simon, Abrams, Jon Cohen and Jack Heller, according to Deadline.

Executive producers include Assemble’s Caitlin de Lisser-Ellen, Duffield, Roy Lee, Steven Schneider, Larson and Fracassi.

The June 4, 2027 date is already getting crowded. Deadline reported that Lionsgate’s John Rambo prequel is also set to open that day, along with an untitled event film from Paramount.

Bad Robot also has another studio title on the way before Skeletons. Deadline reported that The End of Oak Street, starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, is scheduled to be released by Warner Bros. on Aug. 14.

For Sony, the date gives Skeletons a clear runway into the summer movie season, with a cast stacked across horror, drama and franchise work. More details on the film’s marketing and full rollout have not yet been announced in Deadline’s report.
