Casey Affleck lines up gothic mystery Company with Nick Nolte
Variety reports Affleck has wrapped his third feature, a 1975-set gothic mystery starring Nolte, Adelaide Clemens, Ben Mendelsohn and Scoot McNairy.

Casey Affleck is back behind the camera with a gothic mystery, and he has stacked the cast with Nick Nolte, Adelaide Clemens, Ben Mendelsohn and Scoot McNairy, Variety reported.
The film, titled Company, marks Affleck’s third feature as a director and his first since 2019’s Light of My Life. According to Variety, production finished earlier this year in Whistler, Canada.
Affleck, who won the best actor Oscar for Manchester by the Sea, wrote and directed the movie. Ron Hansen, whose credits include The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, is credited as co-writer, Variety reported.
The cast also includes Emily Alyn Lind and Caylee Cowan. Variety listed Nolte’s credits including Cape Fear and Die My Love, Clemens’ including The Great Gatsby, Mendelsohn’s including The Dark Knight Rises and The King, McNairy’s including A Complete Unknown and Speak No Evil, and Lind’s including We Were Liars and Speed-the-Plow.
A mystery told across generations
According to the synopsis reported by Variety, Company begins on a winter night in 1975, when a woman named Evelyn appears without an invitation at a holiday gathering.
Evelyn tells the group about Tom, an elderly recluse who, more than two decades earlier, helped an actress trapped during a Colorado snowstorm. While waiting out the night, the actress shares another story, this one about a farming couple who shelter a troubled young drifter while a string of violent killings alarms the frontier.
Variety reported that the film’s synopsis describes the intertwined stories as a reflection on grief, revenge, forgiveness and compassion.
Production team and sales
Company is a co-production involving Image Nation Studios, Rabbits Black, Spooky Pictures, Artists Equity, Arcana Studio and Artemis Pictures, according to Variety. AGC and Spooky Pictures are handling international sales, while Gersh, Cinetic and Range Select are handling North America.
Spooky Pictures’ Steven Schneider and Roy Lee are producing alongside Cowan, Dan Lawler, Affleck, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, K. Asher Levin, Enzo Marc and Anthony Katagas, Variety reported.
The executive producers include Ben Ross for Image Nation Studios, Rami Yasin for Spooky Pictures, Ronnie Exley and Jeremy Ross for Rabbits Black, Ron McLeod, Dr. Terence Chan, Bryan Meng, Maria Breese for 3:33 Creative Productions and Jonathan Miller.
Ben Ross, CEO of Image Nation Studios, told Variety that Affleck had brought what Ross called an atmospheric style, emotional realism and psychological depth to the project, describing the film as a quietly haunting gothic mystery.
Schneider and Lee told Variety that Company examines family and generational ties, and said the film connects the past with the present through cinematic settings and emotional performances.
Amy Baer, president of film and TV at Artists Equity, told Variety the film shows Affleck’s work as both writer and director and called it a haunting story with a strong cast.
Variety reported that Affleck is represented by Range Media Partners. Nolte is represented by CAA and Tavistock Wood Management, Clemens by Gersh and Untitled Entertainment, Mendelsohn by WME, McNairy by UTA, Cowan by LBI Entertainment, and Lind by Brillstein and CAA.
