Catherine Zeta-Jones is bringing a killer art-world past to AMC+.

The streamer has picked up exclusive rights to Kill Jackie, Deadline reported, with the thriller set to debut in the fall. The series stars Zeta-Jones and Daniel Ings, known for The Gentlemen, and is adapted from Aidan Truhen’s novel The Price You Pay.

Zeta-Jones also serves as an executive producer on the show. Deadline described the project as a twist on the book’s setup, changing the lead character from Jack Price in the novel to Jackie Price on screen.

What Kill Jackie is about

In the series, Zeta-Jones plays Jackie Price, a woman who has spent two decades living in comfort while trying to keep a very low profile. According to Deadline, Jackie’s life has involved global travel, fine-art sales and the use of advanced tax loopholes.

That glossy life is covering a dangerous history. Jackie is hiding from her past as an international cocaine dealer, Deadline reported. Her carefully built anonymity starts to collapse when she learns that a team of elite assassins known as The Seven Demons has been hired to kill her.

The series is written by Tom Butterworth, whose credits include Gangs of London, and Conor Keane, known for North Sea Connection. Damon Thomas, who has worked on Killing Eve, directs.

AMC+ touts the Zeta-Jones vehicle

Dan McDermott, chief content officer of AMC Global Media and president of AMC Studios, called the show “a standout addition to AMC+’s curated slate of premium scripted content” in a statement reported by Deadline.

McDermott said the series reflects “bold, character-driven storytelling” and praised Zeta-Jones’ lead turn, adding that AMC+ was pleased to work with the actor and the producing team on what he described as a “daring, dark, comedic thriller” for U.S. viewers.

The show will not be confined to AMC+ worldwide. Deadline reported that Prime Video will carry Kill Jackie in several European territories and in Canada, while Fremantle is handling international sales outside the U.S.

Who is behind the deal

Steel Springs Pictures is a co-producer on the series and handles U.S. sales, according to Deadline. Steel Springs founder Peter Lawson and Lorenzo De Maio of De Maio Entertainment negotiated the AMC+ deal and co-manage U.S. sales.

Fremantle is selling the show in other territories. José Luis Escolar’s Deabru Kalea Filmeak supervised production in Bizkaia, Spain, Deadline reported.

The rights agreement for the book was handled by the Curtis Brown Media Rights Team on behalf of Patrick Walsh at PEW Literary.
