Chrysalis has locked in its Vietnam release: CJ CGV Vietnam will distribute the U.S.-Vietnam production in theaters nationwide starting Sept. 11, Variety reported.

The film will play in Vietnam under the title Mãi Nợ Một Lời Tạm Biệt, which is rendered in English as The Farewell I Never Gave. Its international title remains Chrysalis.

CJ CGV Vietnam, described by Variety as Vietnam’s leading multiplex operator and distributor, is handling the local theatrical rollout. The deal gives the film a home-country bow for a story set in Vietnam and rooted in the childhood memories of executive producer Sir Daniel K. Winn.

Winn said bringing the film to Vietnamese cinemas is personal to him, citing his childhood and his grandmother as central to the story. He said he hopes viewers in Vietnam recognize parts of their own families and memories in the film.

When is Chrysalis coming out in Vietnam?

Chrysalis is scheduled to open across Vietnam on Sept. 11 through CJ CGV Vietnam. The local title is Mãi Nợ Một Lời Tạm Biệt, while Chrysalis remains the title used internationally.

The film is directed by J. Robert Schulz and written by Andrew Creme. Variety reported that the screenplay is based on a story by Winn, Randall J. Slavin and Schulz.

Kieu Chinh stars as Bà Nội, the grandmother at the center of the story. Winn also appears in the present-day portion of the film.

The cast includes Uy Nhan, Samuel An, Lan Thy, Le Anh Huy, Tien Pham and Trinh Tu Trung. WS Productions produced the film.

Executive producer Randall J. Slavin said the Vietnam release is an important step for Chrysalis and pointed to the work between its U.S. and Vietnamese cast, crew and producing teams. He said the producers are proud to bring the movie to audiences in the country where the story starts.

Where has Chrysalis screened already?

Chrysalis first appeared on the market circuit at the 2026 Cannes Film Market, where it had two market screenings, according to Variety.

The film later competed at the fourth Danang Asian Film Festival, also known as DANAFF. It was one of 13 movies chosen for the Asian Competition.

At DANAFF, Kieu Chinh received the Screen Excellence Merit Award. The honor recognized a screen career that spans nearly seven decades and more than 100 roles, according to Variety.

CJ CGV Vietnam said in a statement that Chrysalis explores family and memory, and that it looks forward to bringing the film to audiences across Vietnam in September.

The Vietnam release is part of a wider rollout plan. Variety reported that the schedule also includes a Beverly Hills engagement in October and a worldwide rollout planned for November.
