A Cristiano Ronaldo drama series is reportedly taking shape in London, with The Sun saying the Portuguese soccer star is working with Kingsman filmmaker Matthew Vaughn on a fictional show about a UK soccer agent.
The project, titled Day 1s, is expected to star Damian Lewis, according to The Sun. Ronaldo is also set to appear in the series and serve as an executive producer, the report said.
The show is said to come from an original idea by soccer agent Darren Dein. Filming has already begun in London, according to The Sun.
What is Cristiano Ronaldo's drama series Day 1s about?
Day 1s will follow a fictional soccer agent named Stanley Dalton, according to the report. The premise puts the deal-making side of the sport at the center of the drama, rather than the action on the pitch.
The Sun also reported that former France and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and rapper Dave are among the names expected to feature. No character details for the guest stars were included in the report.
The project has drawn comparisons to The Playoffs, a Brazilian series for Globo about a soccer agent that starred Cauã Reymond.
How Matthew Vaughn and Ronaldo are connected
Day 1s is described as the first TV show to emerge from UR•Marv Studios, Ronaldo and Vaughn’s banner. The company is an offshoot of Vaughn’s Marv Studios and was first revealed last year.
At launch, the joint-venture film studio said it had already completed two action films and planned to “embrace innovative technology, with a nod to tradition.”
Vaughn is best known for films including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Layer Cake, X-Men: First Class and the Kingsman franchise.
What is Ronaldo doing after the World Cup?
Ronaldo, now 41, plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. His latest entertainment move comes after Portugal went out of the World Cup in the round of 16, losing to eventual winners Spain.
That defeat brought Ronaldo’s World Cup career to an end, according to Deadline. Across his club career, he has been most closely associated with Real Madrid and Manchester United.
Deadline said it contacted representatives for Ronaldo, Vaughn and Lewis for comment. No responses were included in its report.
