David Jonsson Black Panther chatter moved from the Comic-Con stage to Beverly Hills over the weekend, with the 32-year-old actor seen leaving Mr. Chow on Sunday after Marvel’s big reveal.
TMZ reported that Jonsson exited the Beverly Hills restaurant with a group of women and got into a waiting SUV. Backgrid photos showed the actor moving through the group outside the restaurant, including a moment where he had an arm around one woman before the party left.
The outing came one day after Ryan Coogler introduced Jonsson as the new Black Panther during Marvel’s presentation at San Diego Comic-Con, according to TMZ.
Who is David Jonsson playing in Black Panther 3?
Jonsson will play the adult son of T’Challa in Black Panther 3, according to TMZ. T’Challa was the character made famous by the late Chadwick Boseman in the Marvel franchise.
The film is set to arrive in theaters in December 2028, TMZ reported. That gives Marvel a long runway for the next chapter of Wakanda after Coogler’s Comic-Con introduction put Jonsson at the center of the franchise’s future.
At the San Diego event, Jonsson told the crowd that joining the Marvel family was an honor and a privilege, according to TMZ. The moment marked a major public handoff for the actor, whose character is tied directly to T’Challa’s legacy.
Getty images from the Comic-Con presentation showed Jonsson at the Marvel event, while Backgrid photographed him back in Beverly Hills the following night. Together, the weekend gave fans both sides of the rollout: the official franchise reveal and the first celebrity sighting afterward.
Coogler’s announcement also confirms the broad direction of the next Black Panther film as reported by TMZ: Jonsson’s character is an adult version of T’Challa’s son, taking on the mantle in the third movie.
Marvel has not provided further plot details in the reporting cited by TMZ. For now, the confirmed pieces are the role, the Comic-Con introduction, Coogler’s involvement in presenting him, and the December 2028 release window.
