Derek Fisher and Gloria Govan split after nearly five years of marriage, with a representative for the estranged couple confirming to TMZ Sports that the former NBA guard and the “Basketball Wives” personality are now living apart.
The representative told TMZ Sports that Fisher and Govan have been carrying on separate day-to-day lives, while remaining in regular contact as they try to address their problems. According to TMZ Sports, divorce is not currently part of the conversation.
Are Derek Fisher and Gloria Govan getting divorced?
TMZ Sports reported that Fisher and Govan are separated, but a representative said they are not talking about filing for divorce at this point. Separation means a couple is living apart or no longer operating as a couple, while divorce is the legal process that ends a marriage.
The split marks a turn for a relationship that began in 2015, according to TMZ Sports. Fisher proposed to Govan in April 2018, in a moment the outlet previously reported included their children.
Fisher and Govan married in July 2021 at Cielo Farms in Malibu, TMZ Sports reported. Their wedding followed a delay from their original 2020 plans because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The marriage was the second for both. Govan was previously married to former NBA player Matt Barnes, and the two share twin sons, according to TMZ Sports. Fisher was previously married to Candace Fisher, with whom he shares four children, the outlet reported.
Fisher is best known from his long NBA career, including his years with the Los Angeles Lakers. Govan became a familiar name to reality TV viewers through “Basketball Wives.” TMZ Sports identified them as a former NBA star and a “Basketball Wives” star in its report on the separation.
The representative’s account suggests the pair are keeping communication open despite the split. TMZ Sports reported that Fisher and Govan built a family together and are trying to work through their issues, though no further details about the problems between them were provided.
Neither Fisher nor Govan has publicly detailed the separation in the TMZ Sports report. The outlet said it had reached out to representatives for both Fisher and Govan for additional comment and had not received a response.
