Devon Allman has joined AMC’s NASCAR drama Thunder Road as Jimmy Fuchs, with the series set to premiere in 2027.

Devon Allman Thunder Road casting is official: the musician has landed his first major acting role in AMC’s NASCAR drama, Deadline reported Thursday.
Allman will appear in a recurring role on Thunder Road, a new series from creator John Fusco, whose credits include Young Guns and The Highwaymen. The show is scheduled to start production this summer and arrive on AMC and AMC+ in 2027, according to Deadline.
The cast already includes Dennis Quaid, Chase Stokes, Michael Rooker, Matt Barr, Maggie Grace and West Duchovny. Allman joins that lineup as the series builds out its fictional racing dynasty.
Who is Devon Allman playing in Thunder Road?
Allman will play Jimmy Fuchs, described by Deadline as a recurring character with Southern charm, polished “sportsman’s club” credentials and a dangerous side under the surface.
Allman celebrated the casting in a statement to Deadline, saying, “Hot damn! Being cast in AMC’s Thunder Road is such a thrill.” He added that he was eager to work with the cast and play Jimmy Fuchs, calling the character “quite an ornery cuss.”
Fusco also welcomed the casting in comments to Deadline, pointing to Allman’s family background as part of the fit. Allman is the son of Southern rock figure Gregg Allman, and Fusco said Devon Allman brings both performance skill and a lived-in connection to the world the show is portraying.
Fusco said the series is built around family legacy at a turning point, and described Allman’s presence as the kind of authenticity “you simply can’t manufacture.”
What is Thunder Road about?
Thunder Road follows the fictional Whitlock family, a multi-generation stock car racing clan whose history is tied to Southern hill country life, moonshine routes and dirt tracks, according to Deadline.
Quaid stars as Duane Whitlock, known as “The Wrecking Ball,” a racing legend who built the family’s empire and is fighting to keep it alive. Deadline reports that the Whitlocks face aggressive rivals trying to knock them out of power as the family business nears a breaking point.
The show is produced in association with NASCAR. Fusco is executive producing with showrunner Taylor Elmore, Cliff Roberts of Syndicate Entertainment, Mark L. Smith, and NASCAR Studio’s Tim Clark and John Dahl. Gladys Cheng is producing, Deadline reported.
For Allman, the AMC role marks a move from the stage to a scripted television ensemble tied to one of America’s most recognizable racing brands. For Thunder Road, it adds another Southern-rooted performer to a drama already centered on heritage, rivalry and speed.
