The Directors Guild of America has put dates around its next awards race, setting the nomination announcements and voting windows for the 79th annual DGA Awards.
The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Beverly Hilton, according to the guild. The event will cap a voting stretch that begins in mid-December and runs until the eve of the show.
Key dates on the DGA calendar
The guild said nominations for television and commercials will be announced Wednesday, Jan. 6. Film nominations are due one day later, on Thursday, Jan. 7.
Online nomination voting for all categories opens Monday, Dec. 14. For television and commercials, that nomination ballot closes Monday, Jan. 4. For motion pictures, members get until Wednesday, Jan. 6, to cast nomination votes.
After the nominees are revealed, DGA members will vote for winners through Friday, Jan. 29, according to the guild’s schedule.
The winner voting period covers Theatrical Feature Film, Television, Commercials, Documentary and First-Time Feature Film categories.
A bellwether stop in awards season
The DGA Awards are closely watched in Hollywood because the guild’s top film prize often lands in the thick of the Oscar conversation. The 2027 ceremony arrives just weeks before the film industry’s biggest honors finish their own season.
The Beverly Hilton date was already known, but the guild’s newly released calendar gives studios, streamers, campaign teams and voters the full run of deadlines leading into the show.
The January schedule also splits the nomination spotlight across two days. Television and commercial contenders will get the first reveal on Jan. 6, while motion picture nominees take the stage on Jan. 7.
Last year’s winners
At the most recent DGA Awards in February, the guild gave its leading film honor to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another. The film later won the Oscar for Best Picture, and Anderson went on to win Best Director at the Academy Awards, according to the awards results cited by the guild coverage.
On the television side, top DGA prizes went to The Studio, The Pitt and Dying for Sex.
The next DGA cycle now has its main checkpoints in place: nomination voting in December, nominee announcements in early January, final voting through Jan. 29 and the awards ceremony on Jan. 30.
