Elon Musk says Grok Imagine will make an AI Odyssey movie
Musk said on X that Grok Imagine will create a full-length Odyssey film this year as he continues criticizing Christopher Nolan’s hit adaptation.

Elon Musk says his AI tool Grok Imagine will try to beat Hollywood to Homer, promising a full-length version of The Odyssey before the end of the year.
The X and Tesla owner posted the claim on X while sharing an AI-generated short based on the Greek epic. Musk wrote that Grok Imagine would make a “full-length movie of The Odyssey” that is “historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”
The post adds a new wrinkle to Musk’s public criticism of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, the Universal film based on Homer’s epic poem. Nolan’s version has become a global box office force, according to Deadline, which reported a recent worldwide tally of $263.7 million and a projected $20 million Tuesday.
Musk takes aim at Nolan’s casting
Musk has repeatedly criticized choices around Nolan’s film in recent months, according to Deadline. The outlet reported that he objected to Lupita Nyong’o being cast as Helen of Troy.
Deadline also reported that Musk supported posts it described as transphobic about Elliot Page, who was first rumored to be playing Achilles and was later cast as Sinon.
Musk has also shown interest in another possible version of the story. In response to an X user who suggested giving Mel Gibson $100 million to make an Odyssey adaptation “delivered in Homeric Greek,” Musk replied, “I’m down.”
Nolan’s film keeps climbing
For all the online noise, Nolan’s The Odyssey is still drawing serious money at the box office. Deadline reported that the film looks likely to become the British director’s highest-grossing movie.
The Universal release features a stacked cast, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Nyong’o, Page, Jon Bernthal, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton and John Leguizamo.
The movie retells Homer’s epic poem, which Deadline noted was written sometime in the 7th or 8th century BC. The story follows the long aftermath of the Trojan War through Greek myth, giving both Nolan and any AI-made rival plenty of ancient material to pull from.
Musk has not provided further production details for the Grok Imagine project beyond his X post, including whether the proposed film would be released publicly, how it would be made or who would be involved creatively.
His claim comes as AI-generated video tools continue to move into territory once dominated by studios, filmmakers and visual effects teams. For now, Musk’s promised Odyssey remains an X pledge, while Nolan’s version is already in theaters and adding to its box office total.
