Daniel Siad, a French professional model recruiter whose name surfaced repeatedly in records tied to Jeffrey Epstein, has been found dead in France, according to CNN.
A deputy public prosecutor at the Nanterre Judicial Court told CNN that Siad was discovered Monday at his home near Paris. Authorities have not publicly determined the cause or manner of death, the prosecutor said.
Siad had been linked to Epstein for years through both friendship and business dealings. According to CNN, the two men knew each other for more than a decade, and Siad admitted that he arranged meetings between Epstein and multiple female models.
Years of ties to Epstein
Epstein, the disgraced financier who was convicted in 2008 on sex crimes charges, remained in contact with Siad after that conviction, according to CNN’s reporting.
Siad told CNN that he continued associating with Epstein because Epstein had told him he had changed. Siad also said he believed Epstein worked as a casting director for Victoria’s Secret and a major modeling agency.
In an interview with CNN, Siad said: “I trusted him and believed this guy was a professional person ... I never heard anything from anyone I introduced to him who came back to me that they had a bad situation.”
Two women who said Siad introduced them to Epstein told CNN that Epstein abused them. Their allegations are against Epstein, who died in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges.
His name appeared throughout the Epstein files
Siad’s name appears more than 2,000 times in the Epstein Files, according to the reporting. The records include emails in which Siad sent photos of models who were being suggested as possible assistants for Epstein.
In one exchange cited in the reporting, Epstein responded to a proposed candidate with the words, “Too old.”
The files have kept attention on the people who helped introduce women to Epstein, as investigators, journalists and survivors continue to examine the network around him.
Legal issues before his death
Before he died, Siad was also dealing with legal trouble of his own, according to CNN. That included a rape allegation dating back to 1990.
No additional details about that allegation were provided in the reporting, and there was no public update on how authorities were handling it at the time Siad was found dead.
French officials have so far released only limited information about Siad’s death. The Nanterre Judicial Court official cited by CNN confirmed the discovery of his body, while leaving open the key questions of how and why he died.
