FKA Twigs is pushing back hard against Shia LaBeouf’s claim that she harmed his reputation, arguing in court papers that his public record did that work without her help, TMZ reports.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the singer says LaBeouf’s complaint over her remarks in an interview does not hold up. Her filing argues that anything she said publicly could not be the cause of damage to his standing or career.
The dispute grows out of a legal fight that began in 2020, when FKA Twigs sued LaBeouf for alleged sexual battery. In that lawsuit, she accused him of getting physical with her during their relationship and of giving her a sexually transmitted disease.
LaBeouf denied all allegations of wrongdoing. The case was settled in 2025.
Months after that settlement, LaBeouf claimed FKA Twigs broke the agreement by speaking about him in an interview, according to TMZ. FKA Twigs denies that her comments violated the deal.
What FKA Twigs said
In the interview at issue, FKA Twigs said she did not feel “safe” as a woman in the entertainment industry and spoke about wanting to support other survivors, according to TMZ’s account of the court filing.
Her new papers argue those comments were not a breach. The filing also says LaBeouf cannot blame her for career fallout when, in her view, his own conduct had already shaped public perception.
According to the filing described by TMZ, FKA Twigs points to LaBeouf’s past arrests for serious violent crimes, erratic behavior and public use of homophobic slurs. She argues those incidents, rather than her interview, damaged his reputation and hurt any “prospect of future studio employment.”
The filing also takes aim at LaBeouf’s own public comments. FKA Twigs says he discussed their relationship in an interview earlier this year, and she argues that could itself violate the nondisclosure terms of their settlement.
In one sharp passage quoted by TMZ, her filing says: “In other words, it appears to be [Shia’s] position that he – as a sexual abuser – may discuss [FKA’s] trauma and suffering whenever he wants without restriction but that [FKA] – as the survivor – is prohibited from discussing [Shia] or her story.”
The language is from FKA Twigs’ court filing. LaBeouf has denied wrongdoing in the underlying lawsuit, which ended in a settlement.
What she wants from the court
FKA Twigs is asking the court to rule that the nondisclosure provisions in the settlement cannot be enforced, TMZ reports.
She is also asking for a ruling that would allow her to speak about the subject when she chooses.
The latest filing keeps the former couple’s legal battle alive after the 2025 settlement appeared to close the original lawsuit. The current fight is now centered on who is allowed to discuss the relationship, the allegations and the aftermath in public.
