Ghosts season 6 teases include Die Hard Christmas and new possession twist

Ghosts season 6 is already rattling the walls, with showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman using San Diego Comic-Con to preview new characters, a holiday caper inspired by Die Hard and a first for the CBS comedy: ghost-on-ghost possession.
Port and Wiseman spoke to fans in Ballroom 20 on Friday, according to Deadline, and offered fresh hints about what is coming after Season 5 ended with Pete’s fate unresolved. They said that cliffhanger will be dealt with quickly when the show returns, though they indicated Pete’s situation may not be neatly fixed right away.
The pair did not give many specifics about Pete, played by Richie Moriarty. Instead, they filled the panel with teases about the show’s holiday episodes and its 100th installment.
When does Ghosts season 6 come out?
Ghosts will air hour-long Halloween and Christmas specials in the fall, Deadline reported. The sixth season is set to premiere in 2027, with the show returning in the spring.
The Halloween special will introduce Hetty’s sister Margaret, Wiseman told the Comic-Con crowd. Margaret has been mentioned before on the series, and Wiseman described her as Hetty’s “mustachioed sister.”
Wiseman also said Margaret will appear in an unusual fashion and will be “a type of ghost” the show has not featured before, according to Deadline.
The Christmas special is taking its cue from Die Hard, Port said at the panel. He framed the action-movie nod as something that would fit the tastes of Jay and likely Trevor, two characters already known for very different relationships with the chaos at Woodstone.
What is ghost-on-ghost possession?
Port said one of the holiday specials will include the show’s first “ghost-on-ghost possession,” Deadline reported. The show has not yet revealed which special will feature it or how the possession will work.
In the world of Ghosts, the Woodstone spirits are tied to the estate by a supernatural boundary, with Pete as the major exception. That boundary limits where most of the ghosts can go and has shaped many of the show’s stories.
Wiseman told the Comic-Con audience that the ghost boundary will be important again in Season 6. He teased that later in the season, something may happen to it temporarily, according to Deadline.
The coming season will also bring the sitcom to its 100th episode, a milestone that has become less common as many TV seasons have grown shorter in the streaming era. Port and Wiseman said they plan to mark the occasion with an event-style episode.
That episode may connect to It’s Getting Hot in Here, the fictional reality show watched by the Woodstone ghosts. The showrunners teased that the in-universe series will also be reaching its own 100th episode.
During the fan Q&A, one attendee dressed as Isaac Higgintoot suggested that Isaac might have been involved in the crack in the Liberty Bell. Port and Wiseman responded warmly to the idea, Deadline reported, while saying fans can expect the show to keep tying the Woodstone ghosts to real historical events when possible.
