Google TV brings Variety’s interview studio back to San Diego

Variety’s two-day San Diego studio will feature casts from Blade Runner 2099, Reacher, Silo, Percy Jackson and more, plus a Nintendo lounge.

Google TV brings Variety’s interview studio back to San Diego

Hunter Schafer, Michelle Yeoh and Alan Ritchson are among the names set for Variety’s Interview Studio when it returns to San Diego on July 24 and 25, Variety announced.

The two-day studio, presented with Google TV, will feature conversations with actors, creators and producers tied to a packed slate of TV and film projects. Variety said the interviews will run on Variety.com and across its social channels after the event.

Dea Lawrence, Variety’s co-president and publisher, said the studio has become a major entertainment-industry gathering that brings together creatives, talent and fans. She said Variety is again teaming with Google TV and Nintendo for the San Diego experience.

Shalini Govil-Pai, Google’s vice president and general manager of TV Platforms, said Google TV is continuing its partnership with Variety to highlight directors, actors and other creative talent.

Who is expected at the studio

Variety said the schedule includes group conversations tied to fan-heavy franchises, streaming series and upcoming projects.

  • “Blade Runner 2099” will be represented by Michelle Yeoh, Hunter Schafer and Silka Luisa.

  • “Reacher & Neagley” will bring Alan Ritchson and Maria Sten.

  • “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will feature Walker Scobell, Aryan Simhadri, Charlie Bushnell, Tamara Smart, Levi Chrisopulos and Olive Abercrombie.

  • “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” will include Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, Ethan Peck, Paul Wesley, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Christina Chong, Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers.

  • “Silo” will be represented by Rebecca Ferguson, Common, Alexandria Riley, Ashley Zukerman, Jessica Henwick and Graham Yost.

  • “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is set to include Benjamin Walker, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniel Weyman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Owain Arthur, Charlie Vickers, Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne.

The lineup also includes teams from “My Adventures With Superman,” “Vampire Lestat,” “Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender,” “Ghosts,” “Eternally Yours,” “Nimrods,” “Carrie,” “Grimm,” “Coyote vs. Acme” and “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” according to Variety.

Among the other named participants are Jack Quaid, Alice Lee, Ishmel Sahid, Kiana Madeira, Jacob Anderson, Eric Bogosian, Assad Zaman, Sheila Atim, Eric Nam, Román Zaragoza, Jessica Matten, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Asher Grodman, Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool, Mike Dirnt, Mike Flanagan, Summer H. Howell, Samantha Sloyan, Matthew Lillard, Lana Condor, Dave Green, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan.

Nintendo joins the lounge

The Interview Studio Lounge will also include a Nintendo gaming setup, Variety said. Talent and cast members will be able to play “Nintendo Switch Sports Resort” on the Nintendo Switch 2 system before the game’s official release.

Variety said the lounge is designed to create casual cast interaction, social content and friendly competition with The Rizzler. “Splatoon Raiders” will also be available for guests to play.
