Jennifer Aniston leaves Jennette McCurdy memoir series
TMZ reports Aniston exited the TV adaptation of McCurdy’s memoir over scheduling conflicts while scripts are still being written.

Jennifer Aniston is no longer attached to the television version of Jennette McCurdy’s memoir, “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” according to TMZ.
TMZ reports that people with direct knowledge of the production said Aniston stepped away because of scheduling conflicts. The outlet also reported that the project itself is still alive, with scripts currently being written.
The change removes one of the adaptation’s biggest names. When the series was announced in June 2025, Aniston was lined up to executive produce and to play a fictionalized version of McCurdy’s mother, according to TMZ.
A high-profile exit from a complicated project
The memoir adaptation has already had a bumpy development path. TMZ reported that the show nearly came apart last year, before Aniston’s departure became the latest shift around the project.
A couple of months after the June 2025 announcement, Puck reported that director Jason Reitman had left because of creative differences with McCurdy. According to Puck, the disagreement centered on tone, with McCurdy opposed to Reitman pushing the show in a more comedic direction than the book.
Reitman’s exit created another problem, according to the earlier reporting: the production needed to find a replacement director quickly because of Aniston’s packed calendar. TMZ reports that replacement did not come together in time.
Now, Aniston has also departed, leaving the adaptation without the star who had been set for one of its key roles. TMZ did not report a new actor for the part or a new director for the series.
McCurdy’s memoir heads for TV
McCurdy’s “I’m Glad My Mom Died” centers on her life and relationship with her mother. The television adaptation was set up with McCurdy involved, while Aniston’s planned role would have been a fictional version of the maternal figure at the heart of the story, according to TMZ.
For now, the show remains in development. TMZ’s reporting says the scripts are still being worked on, even after the loss of Aniston and Reitman from the previously announced creative team.
