Jessie J has told fans that her relationship with basketball player Chanan Colman ended “some time ago,” saying the pair are now focused on raising their young son together.

The Grammy-nominated singer announced the split on social media Monday, calling it a sad and difficult situation. She did not give an exact date for the breakup.

Jessie said she was sharing the news publicly to head off speculation. In her caption, she wrote that being in the public eye made the post the easiest way to tell people “the truth” before rumors or a false version of events started spreading.

The couple share a son, Sky, who is 3. Jessie said their priority has been him, and that she and Colman are trying to be the best co-parents they can be.

A family photo with a clear message

Along with the announcement, Jessie posted a picture of herself, Colman and Sky together. In the image described by TMZ, the three wear personalized jackets labeled “Mommy,” “Daddy” and “Sky.”

The post also made clear that fans may still see Jessie and Colman together. Jessie said they continue to love and support each other as friends, and explained that if people spot them out as a family, or see them appear on each other’s social media from time to time, that is part of their co-parenting relationship.

She added that they plan to raise and love Sky together with a positive friendship.

Five years together

Jessie and Colman had been together for about five years, according to TMZ. They welcomed Sky in May 2023.

Colman was also by Jessie’s side during her breast cancer battle last year, TMZ reported. The singer’s announcement does not suggest any specific reason for the breakup.

Jessie is best known to many fans for hits including “Price Tag.” Colman is a basketball player, and the pair had often been seen as a family unit before the singer’s latest update.

For now, Jessie’s message is centered on keeping things calm around Sky. She framed the split as a private family change being addressed publicly because of their visibility, while stressing that she and Colman remain united as parents.
