Mia Threapleton and Danny Huston have joined Anthony McCarten’s historical political thriller The Price of Peace, with principal photography now underway in London, Deadline reported.
The film stars Guy Pearce as U.S. President Harry S. Truman, Jared Harris as British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Merab Ninidze as Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. Threapleton, known for The Phoenician Scheme, is playing Mary Churchill, while Huston, whose credits include Wonder Woman, is playing General Groves, according to Deadline.
The drama centers on the Potsdam Conference in July 1945, held after Nazi Germany’s defeat as Allied leaders decided the future of postwar Germany, Europe and the wider world. According to the film’s synopsis reported by Deadline, Truman is focused on ending the war with Japan, Churchill is facing an election at home, and Stalin is pursuing territorial aims in occupied regions.
McCarten, a four-time Academy Award nominee whose credits include Darkest Hour, Bohemian Rhapsody, The Theory of Everything and The Two Popes, said the conference marked the point where World War II gave way to the Cold War. He also said he was pleased to begin production with the cast assembled for the film, Deadline reported.
SND, which presented the project at the European Film Market earlier this year, is on board as co-producer and is handling international sales and French distribution. Ramy Nahas, SND’s director of international sales and distribution, said buyer interest in Berlin showed strong distributor demand for the project, according to Deadline.
The production team includes director of photography Henry Braham, production designer James Merifield, costume designer Tina Kalivas, hair and makeup designer Suzanne Stokes-Munton, prosthetics designers Vee Holt and Stuart Richards, editor Fernando Stutz and composer Harry Gregson-Williams.
The Price of Peace is produced by Raccoon Features, Muse of Fire Productions and Salloway Studios, in association with Spark Productions, Sub Rosa Group and Ingara. Producers listed by Deadline include Jonathan Saubach, Philipp Klausing, Matthew Salloway, Anthony McCarten, Eric Falkenstein, Igor Nesterenko, Elizaveta Chalenko and Philipp Nesterenko.
Executive producers include Thierry Desmichelle, Rémi Jimenez, Nicolas Rolland, Simon Moores, Oliver Indictor, Thomas Valentin, Marc Frydman, Ken Davenport, Jonathan Hogue, Gary Hamilton and Ying Ye, according to Deadline. The U.S. is co-represented by CAA Media Finance, and delivery is expected in 2027.
