Olandria Carthen and Nic Vansteenberghe have called time on their post-villa romance, with TMZ reporting it has confirmed the split and People first reporting the breakup.
The pair, who finished as runners-up on Season 7 of Love Island USA, recently decided to end their relationship about a year after leaving the show together, according to TMZ.
People cited a source who said distance and packed schedules made it difficult for Carthen and Vansteenberghe to keep their connection going. The same source said the two remain close friends and continue to have love, respect and support for each other.
TMZ reported it contacted both reality stars for comment but had not received a response.
A villa romance with a late-season spark
Carthen and Vansteenberghe did not begin Season 7 as a couple. TMZ reported that both had been paired with other people earlier in the season before they linked up shortly before the finale.
Despite that late start, the two had said they felt immediate chemistry, according to TMZ. Their connection carried them all the way to the final stretch of the dating competition, where they placed second.
Their relationship continued after the cameras stopped rolling, and the two initially shared parts of it with viewers online. That public attention soon became a pressure point.
Less posting, more speculation
Carthen told Glamour in December that she and Vansteenberghe were worn out by the attention surrounding their relationship. She said at the time that the pair hoped pulling back on what they shared publicly would give them some breathing room.
That choice created another problem. According to Carthen’s comments to Glamour, the drop-off in couple posts led to rumors about the status of the relationship, leaving them stuck between sharing too much and sharing too little.
The breakup now puts an end to one of the bigger couples to come out of Love Island USA Season 7, at least romantically. People’s source framed the split as amicable, saying their bond continues as a friendship.
Neither Carthen nor Vansteenberghe has publicly commented on the breakup in TMZ’s report.
Another Love Island split in the spotlight
The news lands as Love Island USA alumni continue to face close fan attention long after their seasons wrap. TMZ has also recently covered other Season 7 cast members, including Kenny Rodriguez speaking after his split from JaNa Craig and Bryce Alakai celebrating a Love Island USA win with Trinity Tatum.
For Carthen and Vansteenberghe, the update is simpler: the villa connection made it beyond the finale, but distance, schedules and public scrutiny became part of the story once real life took over.
