Pearl Studio’s new animated comedy All Wishes Come True! is heading beyond China within weeks of its domestic launch, with release dates now set across several international markets, according to Variety.

The film, produced by Pearl Studio and CMC Pictures, is scheduled to open in China on July 24. Its first international stops will be Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea on Aug. 13.

One day later, on Aug. 14, the movie is due to arrive in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland and the Netherlands. Belgium and Luxembourg are set to follow on Sept. 4, Variety reported.

A folk tale gets a comic makeover

All Wishes Come True! draws from the Chinese folk tale The Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea, recasting the legend as a mythological comedy.

Variety said the story begins with Lü Dongbin and Zhongli Quan, two ordinary mortals who pretend to be immortals as part of a plan to enter a legendary vault. Their scheme grows as they bring in six more companions: He Xiangu, Tieguai Li, Han Xiangzi, Cao Guojiu, Lan Caihe and Zhang Guolao.

The group then faces a conspiracy that puts the balance between the mortal and immortal worlds at risk, according to the report.

The film is written and directed by Mu Zhengyang and produced by Cao Linlin. Su Hang, a Hong Kong Film Award winner for The Shadow’s Edge, designed the action sequences. Chen Hao, whose credits include Ne Zha, directed the voice cast, Variety reported.

Pearl Studio looks overseas

Pearl Studio is one of China’s most visible animation companies internationally. Its past credits include Kung Fu Panda 3, Abominable and the Oscar-nominated Over the Moon.

The Beijing-based studio operates as the animation arm of CMC Inc. Variety reported that Pearl Studio is also developing several original animated features inspired by traditional Chinese culture for global audiences.

CMC Pictures, CMC Inc.’s film division, works across development, production, investment, marketing and distribution. The company moved into international distribution in 2016 and has released about 120 films worldwide, according to Variety.

Its distribution slate has included the Wandering Earth, Ne Zha and Detective Chinatown franchises, as well as Ip Man 4 and A Writer’s Odyssey. Variety said CMC Pictures’ network spans more than 100 countries and 500 cities.

The rollout lands during a strong period for Chinese animation abroad. Variety reported that Ne Zha 2 has earned more than $2.2 billion worldwide, while overseas revenue for the Chinese animation sector reached $9.3 billion in 2025.
