President Curtis season 2 is already a go before the Rick and Morty spinoff has even premiered. The show’s creative team announced the early renewal Friday during a San Diego Comic-Con panel, Deadline reported.

Keith David, who voices President Andre Curtis, is set to return for the second season. Deadline reported that David appeared at the convention with co-stars Stephanie Beatriz and Jim Rash, plus co-creators and executive producers Dan Harmon and James Siciliano, to share the news.

Adult Swim is not waiting to see election-night returns on this one. According to the team, production on the second season has already started.

Has President Curtis been renewed for season 2?

Yes. Adult Swim has renewed President Curtis for a second season ahead of the animated series’ debut, according to Deadline and the show’s Comic-Con announcement.

The next batch of episodes will follow President Curtis and his crew as they face fresh cryptid dangers, strange new alliances and more off-kilter science-fiction assignments, Deadline reported.

The series is set inside the Rick and Morty universe and centers on President Andre Curtis, a character voiced by David. The premise puts Curtis and his unusual staff in the middle of problems that range from diplomacy across dimensions to paranormal cases and unexplained events.

Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen framed the renewal as a vote of confidence in the character and the creative team.

“President Curtis quickly proved himself worthy of another term!” Ouweleen said in a statement reported by Deadline. “With Keith David’s inimitably endearing performance and the creativity of Dan, James and the entire show team, this series and this President are what the people need more of – even if they don’t know it yet.”

David leads the voice cast alongside Beatriz, known for Twisted Metal, and Rash, known for Community. Harmon, a co-creator of Rick and Morty, is making the spinoff with Siciliano, who also serves as an executive producer.

Danielle Uhlarik, Monica Mitchell and Steve Levy are also executive producers on President Curtis, according to Deadline.

The renewal gives the Adult Swim spinoff an unusually strong runway: a second season is in motion before viewers have seen the first. For fans of Rick and Morty, it also signals that the network is treating President Curtis as more than a one-off side character, building a separate corner of the franchise around his White House and its weirdest emergencies.
