Regina Hall has joined Benny Safdie’s Lizard Music, the Amazon MGM and United Artists film starring and produced by Dwayne Johnson.

Regina Hall is joining Lizard Music, Deadline reports, adding another name to Benny Safdie’s Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists film with Dwayne Johnson.
The project is a live-action and CGI hybrid, with Safdie directing from his own screenplay. Deadline reports that Johnson is starring and producing, while Theo Leber, Alicia Silverstone and Tim Heidecker are also in the cast.
Hall will play a friend and co-worker of Johnson’s character, who is known as The Chicken Man, according to Deadline. The film is based on Daniel Pinkwater’s novel of the same name.
What is Lizard Music about?
According to Deadline’s description of the story, Lizard Music centers on a boy, played by Leber, who is left on his own and discovers a strange late-night broadcast featuring lizards making music from another world.
That discovery sends him looking for answers and brings him to The Chicken Man, played by Johnson. The character has a treasured companion: Claudia, a 111-year-old chicken.
Deadline reports that the boy and The Chicken Man share a mysterious vision that pushes them into an adventure tied to a hidden society. The story moves through unseen worlds, strange harmonies and the connection formed between people who feel lost.
A live-action and CGI hybrid means the film will combine photographed performers and settings with computer-generated elements. In this case, that format fits a story involving musical lizards, invisible worlds and a very old chicken.
Who is making the movie?
The producer list includes Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt for United Artists, Safdie for Out for the Count Productions, Johnson for Seven Bucks Productions and David Koplan for Magnetic Fields Entertainment, according to Deadline.
Safdie’s involvement as both writer and director puts him at the center of the adaptation. The film also brings Johnson back into producer-star mode through Seven Bucks Productions.

Deadline notes that Hall recently appeared in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Academy Award-winning One Battle After Another with Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro. The report says that performance brought Hall some of the strongest reviews of her career.
Hall is also currently seen in Peacock’s The Five-Star Weekend opposite Jennifer Garner, Chloë Sevigny, Gemma Chan and Timothy Olyphant. Deadline reports that the series premiered July 9 and became Peacock’s top scripted title of all time after passing 1 billion viewing minutes in its first week on the service.
The show also placed among the top five original streaming series for the week of July 6 through July 12, according to Nielsen data cited by Deadline.
Hall recently returned as Brenda Meeks in Scary Movie 6. Her upcoming credits include Nick Stoller’s Judgment Day with Will Ferrell for Prime Video and Netflix’s limited series Rabbit, Rabbit with Adam Driver, from creator and showrunner Peter Craig and director Philip Barantini.
Deadline reports that Hall is represented by Independent Artist Group.
