Rings of Power season 3 trailer reveals Simon Pegg as the Balrog

Prime Video has released the Rings of Power season 3 trailer, giving fans their first look at the next chapter of Amazon Studios’ Middle-earth series and revealing a fiery new voice in the cast: Simon Pegg as the Balrog.
The reveal came during the show’s Season 3 presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, where it was announced that Pegg will voice the Balrog, described as a hulking magma monster tied to Sauron’s push to forge the One Ring.
The series, formally titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, is based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth and takes place thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Its story follows the creation of the Rings of Power and Sauron’s return to Middle-earth.
What is Rings of Power season 3 about?
According to Prime Video’s official logline, Season 3 is set during the peak of the War of the Elves and Sauron. The story follows the Dark Lord as he tries to make the One Ring, the weapon he believes will let him win the war, control all peoples and rule Middle-earth.
For viewers who know the films, the One Ring is the central object that later drives the events of Peter Jackson’s trilogy. In this series, Season 3 moves closer to the moment when that power is created.
The returning cast includes Charlie Vickers, Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Robert Strange and Markella Kavenagh.
Prime Video has also added several actors for the third season. Jamie Campbell Bower of Stranger Things, Eddie Marsan, Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla and Adam Young have recently joined the cast, according to Variety.
Who is making Rings of Power season 3?
J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay serve as showrunners and producers on Season 3. They also executive produce with Lindsey Weber, Justin Doble, Kate Hazell and director Charlotte Brändström.
Brändström is directing multiple episodes, along with Sanaa Hamri and Stefan Schwartz. Matthew Penry-Davey is a producer, while Ally O’Leary, Tim Keene and Andrew Lee are co-producers.
The new teaser lands as the broader Lord of the Rings franchise marks a major milestone. This year is the 25th anniversary of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
To mark that anniversary, Fathom Entertainment and Warner Bros. are returning all three extended-edition films from Peter Jackson’s trilogy to theaters in January. The movies will screen in DBOX from Jan. 16 to Jan. 19, followed by standard-format screenings from Jan. 23 to Jan. 25.
Select cinemas will also sell limited-edition Lord of the Rings concession items. AMC will offer popcorn buckets featuring maps of Middle-earth, while Regal and local cinemas will carry buckets designed around the One Ring.
