The Sara Gilson death investigation centers on a grim discovery in Owasso, Oklahoma, where the TikTok creator and her estranged husband, Jeremiah “Shawn” Duffey, were found dead Thursday with gunshot wounds, according to reports.

KTUL reported that a family member told police Duffey allegedly entered Gilson’s home without permission, killed her and then died by suicide. Police have not formally classified the case as a murder-suicide, TMZ reported.

A child who lived at the home reportedly called 911.

What happened to Sara Gilson?

Gilson and Duffey were found dead inside her Owasso home on Thursday, according to TMZ and KTUL. The reported sequence of events comes from a family member’s statement to police, while investigators have not publicly assigned an official murder-suicide label to the case.

The deaths came less than two weeks after Gilson posted a TikTok participating in a trend about imaginary future Netflix documentaries about people’s lives. In her version, Gilson wrote that she was preparing for a documentary about her soon-to-be ex-husband, whom she said she had “just found out” was a pedophile.

Gilson captioned the post, “I wish I was joking.” The accusation was made by Gilson on TikTok and has not been established in the available reporting.

Protective orders had been filed before the shooting

Court records reviewed by TMZ show Gilson sought two protective orders against Duffey in 2021 and filed another one last month. PEOPLE reported that the latest protective order had been extended through Aug. 24.

In a separate June order, Duffey was told to remain 100 yards away from a local child and that child’s home, according to court records reviewed by TMZ. The available reporting does not say whether that order was connected to the deaths at Gilson’s home.

TMZ reported that it contacted Duffey’s attorney for comment and had not received a response.

Who was Sara Gilson?

Gilson was known online as a TikTok creator, and her final weeks drew attention because of the viral video in which she discussed her estranged husband. The post, which was embedded in TMZ’s report, had drawn hundreds of thousands of likes by the time it was cited.

The case now sits in the hands of Owasso police, with the central facts still stark: two people dead, a child’s emergency call, prior protective orders, and a recent public accusation that has become part of the timeline investigators and reporters are examining.
