Scary Movie director teases 13 extra minutes in PVOD cut
Michael Tiddes told Daily Variety the new PVOD release includes unseen scenes, an alternate ending and more than 30 minutes of bonus material.

The new “Scary Movie” is getting a longer life at home, with director Michael Tiddes saying the Paramount and Miramax release has arrived on PVOD with a director’s cut running 13 minutes beyond the theatrical version.
Tiddes discussed the release on Variety’s “Daily Variety” podcast, where he said the home-viewing version includes new material that was not shown in cinemas, plus an alternate ending.
According to Variety, the PVOD package also includes more than 30 minutes of bonus features. Tiddes said the extended cut brings “more jokes, more chaos, and even more lines crossed.”
A Wayans reunion behind the camera
The film marks a return for the “Scary Movie” franchise associated with Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans. Variety reported that Tiddes was chosen to direct the revival after years of professional ties to the Wayans family.
Tiddes told the podcast he started his career as an assistant to Marlon and Shawn Wayans. That early job put him near the making of films including 2004’s “White Chicks” and 2006’s “Little Man,” he said.
“I was lucky enough to start my career working for the Wayans and as an assistant and was able to be behind the scenes with these guys,” Tiddes said on the podcast, describing how he watched the brothers work during that period.
His feature directing credits include the 2017 film “Naked,” 2019’s “Sextuplets” and 2024’s “Half Baked: Totally High,” according to Variety.
The franchise comes back to its creators
Variety reported that the return of “Scary Movie” carried extra weight because Shawn and Marlon Wayans had lost the rights to the property in the early 2000s during a dispute with then-Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein.
Tiddes said on “Daily Variety” that the new movie felt like a full-circle moment for both him and the Wayans brothers.
He said the Wayans brothers had “now rightfully gotten it back,” adding that he was happy to see “Scary Movie” with “the original guys who created the franchise.”
Tiddes also said he was taken aback when the brothers approached him about directing the comeback. He told the podcast they said they trusted him as the person to take over the franchise, calling the moment “cloud nine” for him.
Why the extras matter to Tiddes
The director framed the PVOD edition as a throwback to the home-video era that shaped his own movie obsession.
Tiddes told “Daily Variety” he grew up in the 1980s and 1990s and was drawn to DVD extras, behind-the-scenes material and director commentaries. He described those features as the kind of informal film education that pushed him toward Hollywood.
“I love the fact that we’re doing that,” Tiddes said of the added material now attached to “Scary Movie” on PVOD.
