Shane Gillis has landed a Guinness World Records title before even stepping into the spotlight at Lincoln Financial Field.
Variety reported that Gillis sold 76,212 tickets for his July 17 comedy show at the Philadelphia Eagles’ stadium, enough to set the Guinness World Record for the most tickets sold for a comedy show by a solo comedian.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Andy Glass verified the ticket-sales total and confirmed the record to Variety.
The record is a newly created Guinness category, according to Variety. Guinness set the minimum mark at 54,000 tickets, separating ticket sales from audience attendance, which the organization had already tracked in another category.
Another record may be in play
Gillis is also positioned to challenge the Guinness mark for the largest audience for a comedian, Variety reported. That record will depend on the verified number of people inside Lincoln Financial Field for the show.
The current attendance record belongs to Mario Barth, according to Guinness World Records. Barth performed for 67,733 people at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on July 12, 2008.
Gillis’ ticket-sales number is higher than that attendance mark, though Guinness will need the official crowd count to determine whether he takes the separate audience record.
Variety also noted that Gabriel Iglesias and Jo Koy attempted to beat the audience record in 2025 with a joint show at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
A home-state stadium swing
The Philadelphia date carries extra weight for Gillis, who grew up in Pennsylvania and is frequently seen in Eagles gear, according to Variety. Lincoln Financial Field is the home of the NFL team.
Variety described the show as the biggest of Gillis’ career and the peak of a strong touring run. Gillis also recently hosted Netflix’s “Roast of Kevin Hart.”
Over the past two years, Gillis has sold more than 1 million tickets across more than 100 headlining performances, Variety reported. During that stretch, he set 34 venue records for attendance and ticket sales.
Those venue marks include Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, where Variety reported Gillis sold more tickets than any other live event in the arena’s history.
He also set all-time attendance records at Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena, San Francisco’s Chase Center and Tucson Arena, according to Variety.
Other comedy ticket records
Naomi Watanabe holds the Guinness World Record for most tickets sold for a comedy show by a solo female comedian, according to Guinness. The Japanese comedian and actress sold 44,356 tickets for a performance at the Tokyo Dome on Feb. 11, 2026.
Gillis’ new mark gives Guinness a separate benchmark for solo comedians based on tickets sold, while the live audience category remains tied to verified attendance on the night of the performance.
