A litter of 6-week-old puppies got a Capitol Hill field trip, and TMZ DC reports the tiny recruits may one day work as Capitol Police K-9s.

Video published by TMZ DC shows Charlie Cotton encountering the dogs before they were brought around the Hill for an early outing. According to the outlet, the visit was meant to help the puppies build social skills and confidence, long before any serious police-dog duties would begin.

Puppy steps on the Hill

Cotton spoke with the people transporting the litter and asked about why the dogs were there, TMZ DC reported. The outlet said the puppies appear to have meaningful career paths ahead connected to police K-9 work, though they are still at the cuddle stage rather than the command stage.

At 6 weeks old, the dogs were presented as future prospects, not working animals already on duty. TMZ DC said the focus of the outing was socialization and confidence, giving the pups early exposure to a busy setting.

Cotton also got hands-on access to the litter, giving the puppies pets and head scratches on camera, according to TMZ DC. The report described the encounter as friendly, with no bite drama in the clip.

A softer side of security

The Capitol Hill setting gave the puppies a high-profile backdrop for an early training-related stop. TMZ DC framed the litter as possible future police dogs, putting the focus on the first steps that come before a dog is ready for official work.

The report did not identify the dogs by name or list their breed. It also did not say when, or whether, the puppies would formally enter Capitol Police service.

TMZ DC also pointed to a more infamous Washington dog chapter, referring to President Joe Biden's German Shepherd Commander and saying the dog is long gone. The outlet tied that mention to the absence of any biting incident in the puppy video.

For now, the Capitol Hill visitors are tiny, fuzzy and still learning how to handle the world around them. If their training continues, TMZ DC reports, some of them could eventually trade puppy field trips for police K-9 work.
