Snoop Dogg movie lands a summer 2027 Universal release
Universal has set the Snoop Dogg biopic Snoop for Aug. 6, 2027, with Jonathan Daviss starring and Craig Brewer directing.

Snoop Dogg’s life story has a date with the big screen: Universal Pictures will release the biopic Snoop in theaters on Friday, Aug. 6, 2027, Deadline reported.
The film is taking over a slot Universal had previously reserved for an untitled event film, according to the report. That gives the project a prime summer berth for a story built around one of hip-hop’s most recognizable names.
Deadline reported that Outer Banks actor Jonathan Daviss is set to play Snoop Dogg. Craig Brewer, whose credits include Hustle & Flow and Song Sung Blue, is attached to direct.
The screenplay comes from Brewer’s rewrite of an earlier script by Joe Robert Cole, Deadline reported.
A Death Row Pictures first
Snoop is the first project under Death Row Pictures’ overall deal with NBCUniversal Entertainment, according to Deadline. The movie will be produced by Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Snoop Dogg and Death Row Pictures president Sara Ramaker.
The film will use music from Snoop Dogg’s catalog, Deadline reported. The story is set to follow his rise as an artist, mogul and gangsta rap icon.
Grazer brings a bit of relevant history to the project: he also produced 8 Mile, the Eminem autobiographical drama that Deadline noted grossed $242.8 million worldwide.
Universal’s music-movie streak
Universal has a track record with music-focused films cited in Deadline’s report. The studio handled overseas distribution on Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson movie Michael, which Deadline said passed $1 billion globally.
The studio was also behind Straight Outta Compton, the N.W.A biopic that earned $201.6 million worldwide, according to Deadline. Alongside 8 Mile, those titles frame Snoop as Universal’s next swing at a theatrical music biography with built-in name recognition.
