Star Trek Scouts season 2 has a launch date: Paramount announced at San Diego Comic-Con that the preschool animated series will return on Sept. 8, Star Trek Day, with a YouTube premiere.
The reveal came during Paramount's Star Trek session at the convention, where the studio put a date on the next run of the franchise's first preschool-focused extension.
The series follows three 8-year-old friends, JR, Sprocket and Ron, as they train with hopes of becoming future Starfleet Explorers. Their adventures send them on space-themed missions built around discovery, growth and the franchise's familiar call to boldly go.
When does Star Trek Scouts season 2 premiere?
Paramount said season 2 of Star Trek Scouts will debut on Sept. 8, which the franchise marks as Star Trek Day. The new season is set for YouTube, continuing the show's digital-first path for young viewers.
Season 1 is already available on Nickelodeon's Blaze and the Monster Machines YouTube channel, according to Paramount's release details. The show is aimed at little kids, making it a rare entry point into Star Trek for preschool viewers rather than the franchise's usual older audience.
What is Star Trek Scouts about?
Star Trek Scouts takes the big sci-fi ideals of Star Trek and scales them down for a younger crowd. Instead of seasoned officers on a starship bridge, the show centers on kid scouts learning how to explore, solve problems and work together.
The first season wrapped with a very Star Trek problem in miniature: the young characters had to protect a farmer's corn crop from small pink aliens identified as Tribbles. In the finale description, JR, Roo and Sprocket were trying to catch the creatures before they devoured the corn.
Tribbles are one of the franchise's best-known alien critters, and their appearance gives the preschool series a direct link to classic Star Trek lore while keeping the stakes easy for younger viewers to follow.
Who makes Star Trek Scouts?
The series is developed and produced by Nickelodeon Digital Studio in association with CBS Studios, according to Paramount. That puts the show inside the same corporate family that has been building out Star Trek across streaming, animation and kid-focused programming.
The Sept. 8 return date gives Paramount a neatly branded launchpad, tying the show's second season to the annual franchise celebration. For families already watching season 1 on YouTube, the new batch of missions now has a clear date on the calendar.
