The Odyssey eyes 2026’s top Monday at the box office
Christopher Nolan’s Homer epic is estimated at $17.5 million Monday, putting it ahead of Toy Story 5 and The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is still packing theaters after its opening weekend, with Monday ticket sales estimated at $17.5 million in North America, according to Deadline.
If that figure holds, it would be the strongest Monday of 2026 so far. Deadline reported that the Universal release would edge past Toy Story 5, which made $17.3 million on Monday, June 22, and Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu, which took in $16.4 million on Memorial Day Monday.
The Monday haul would also put The Odyssey high on Nolan’s own chart. Deadline said it ranks third among the filmmaker’s Monday grosses, behind The Dark Knight with $24.4 million on July 21, 2008, and The Dark Knight Rises with $19.3 million on July 23, 2012. Oppenheimer made $12.67 million on its first Monday.
Imax demand stays hot
Premium-format seats appear to be a big part of the rush. Deadline reported that Imax showings were difficult to book in Los Angeles and New York, citing ticket availability at major theaters.
At TCL Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, Deadline said the 7 p.m. Imax 70mm showing in the main theater had barely any seats left, while the 10:55 p.m. show had only the first two rows open. The theater was also the film’s top-grossing location over the weekend with $523,000, according to Deadline.
The outlet reported that The Odyssey gave TCL Chinese Theatre its biggest opening weekend ever, topping the $455,000 posted there by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
In New York, Deadline said AMC Lincoln Center was seeing sellouts or near sellouts in Imax auditoriums. At Regal’s revamped Sherman Oaks Galleria in Los Angeles, Imax seats were scarce, while Deadline reported that the RPX Barco No. 1 auditorium still had plenty of seats available for 5:45 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. shows at the time of its report.
Four-day total races past Oppenheimer
Through four days, The Odyssey has reached $141 million domestically, Deadline reported. That is 48% ahead of Oppenheimer over the same Friday-to-Monday stretch. Oppenheimer later finished its North American theatrical run with $330 million.
The film’s three-day domestic opening was revised to $123.5 million, down from the previously reported $124.5 million, according to Deadline. Even with that adjustment, Deadline said it remains the biggest North American opening of 2026 for a live-action film.
International numbers moved the other way. Deadline reported overseas grosses at $140.2 million, up from an earlier $139.6 million estimate. That puts the film’s global debut at $263.7 million.
Deadline said that worldwide launch is Nolan’s best career opening, ahead of The Dark Knight Rises, which opened globally to $249 million.
The estimates were attributed by Deadline to sources. Universal did not respond to the outlet’s request for comment.
