Wedotv is making its India debut with Samsung TV Plus, putting four of its ad-supported linear channels in front of Samsung Smart TV users across the country, Variety reports.
The agreement brings wedotv Big Stories, wedotv Cars, wedotv Movies and wedotv Sports to the platform. The package covers factual shows, motoring programs, films and sports programming.
Wedotv Big Stories is made with Big Media, while wedotv Cars is produced in partnership with Motorvision, according to Variety.
Four channels, one big streaming market
The India launch is wedotv’s first distribution arrangement in the country. It also continues the company’s wider move across Asia and its international expansion that has been under way since 2023, Variety reports.
For Samsung TV Plus, the deal adds another international channel supplier to a service already built around ad-supported viewing. Samsung TV Plus comes preloaded on Samsung Smart TVs and selected devices, and it does not require a subscription.
Samsung TV Plus has more than 100 million monthly active users globally, according to figures cited by Variety. The service offers more than 4,300 ad-supported linear channels in 30 countries.
The India rollout is also wedotv’s 13th territory for channel launches on Samsung TV Plus. Recent launches have included the Middle East and North Africa, Australia and New Zealand, according to Variety.
Execs point to growth
Iza Piotrowska, wedotv’s senior vice president of global business development, said the India launch is a step in the company’s international expansion and reflects its focus on fast-growing markets.
Piotrowska described India as a streaming market that is changing quickly and said the Samsung TV Plus partnership lets wedotv offer curated international content to an engaged audience.
Kunal Mehta, general manager and head of business development for Samsung TV Plus India, said India is a key growth market for the service. He said Samsung TV Plus is working with content providers to build out its TV viewing offer.
Mehta said adding wedotv’s channels expands the international programming available on Samsung TV Plus and supports the platform’s strategy of offering subscription-free streaming content to Samsung TV users in India.
Wedotv’s wider footprint
Wedotv is the advertising-supported streaming business of Video Solutions AG, a Swiss media company.
Its channels are available through wedotv’s own website and apps, as well as through partner platforms. Variety lists LG Channels, VIDAA/Hisense, Zattoo and Freeview among those partners.
The company’s channels currently reach audiences in the U.K., Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America, according to Variety.
