YG was detained in the Drakeo murder investigation Thursday morning while police carried out a search warrant at a Burbank property connected to the rapper, according to TMZ.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that a SWAT team responded around 7 AM PT in Burbank, California. YG was held during the police activity and later released, the outlet reported.
A California Highway Patrol official told TMZ that YG was not arrested. The official said he was detained during the warrant service and then let go.
Why was YG detained in Burbank?
TMZ reported that officers were executing a search warrant connected to the investigation into the murder of Drakeo the Ruler. According to the outlet, CHP was the lead agency on the matter, with Burbank SWAT assisting.
A detention during a search warrant means officers temporarily hold someone while police carry out the warrant. It is separate from an arrest, and TMZ reported that YG was released after being detained.
The property searched is connected to YG, TMZ reported. The outlet also noted that YG had beef with Drakeo before the late rapper’s death, while YG has denied any involvement.

The hit-for-hit event was scheduled to start at 6:30 PM PT, according to TMZ. The matchup was billed around the two Compton rappers, giving YG a packed day that began with police activity in Burbank.
TMZ also pointed to a previous Burbank police encounter involving YG. The outlet reported that he was arrested there in October 2024 on a misdemeanor DUI after officers found him outside his car, which had gone over a curb.
As of TMZ’s report, Thursday’s incident ended with YG released and without an arrest in connection with the search warrant.
