The YG Verzuz with The Game is still on for Thursday night, according to TMZ, after YG was detained during a law enforcement operation earlier in the day.
Sources close to Verzuz told TMZ the event will go ahead as scheduled. YG is due to face fellow Compton rapper The Game in the “Compton Forever” battle, with a start time set for 6:30 p.m. PT.
The update followed a SWAT response at a Burbank property connected to YG on Thursday morning, TMZ reported. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that authorities were executing a search warrant around 7 a.m.
What happened to YG before the Verzuz battle?
According to TMZ, the search warrant was tied to the investigation into the 2021 killing of rapper Drakeo the Ruler. TMZ reported that the property where the warrant was served is connected to YG.
A California Highway Patrol official confirmed to TMZ that YG was detained while the warrant was carried out. The official said he was not arrested and was later released.
TMZ reported that YG and Drakeo had a documented feud before Drakeo’s death. YG has denied any involvement in Drakeo’s killing, according to the outlet.
Drakeo the Ruler died after being stabbed at the Once Upon a Time in L.A. festival in 2021, TMZ previously reported. The Thursday search warrant was described by law enforcement sources as part of that murder investigation.
