Zaire Wade pleaded not guilty Thursday to a felony charge in his domestic violence case, while prosecutors told a Pasadena judge that police found an unregistered firearm at his Burbank home after the alleged incident, according to TMZ.

Wade, the eldest son of former NBA star Dwyane Wade, appeared in court for his arraignment following his arrest last month. A reporter for LA Magazine who was in the courtroom reported that prosecutors said officers confiscated the firearm after the incident.

The gun claim surfaced during the first major court appearance in a case that began with a call to police about noise inside a Burbank residence. According to TMZ, officers responded after a report of people yelling and stomping, raising concern that a domestic disturbance or someone in distress could be inside.

Police said they found Wade and a woman at the home. Officers said the woman had facial lacerations, and Wade was arrested, according to TMZ’s reporting on the case.

Court order issued after arraignment

At Thursday’s hearing, the court issued an emergency protection order requiring Wade to stay away from the alleged victim, TMZ reported. The order also requires him to surrender all firearms.

Wade is currently out on bond. His next scheduled court date is a preliminary hearing set for September 24.

The case remains at the allegation stage. Wade entered a not guilty plea, and TMZ did not report any comment from him on the prosecutors’ firearm statement or the charge.

The arraignment adds a new detail to a case that has already drawn attention because of Wade’s family name and the circumstances of the police response. Prosecutors’ statement in court, as reported by LA Magazine, puts the alleged unregistered weapon at the center of the judge’s order requiring firearms to be turned over while the case proceeds.

No additional details about the firearm, including its type or where in the home it was allegedly found, were reported. The reports also did not describe the relationship between Wade and the woman or provide further information about her condition beyond the injuries police said they observed.
