James Van Der Beek’s former Beverly Hills rental asks $13,950 a month
The four-bedroom home once leased by James and Kimberly Van Der Beek is back on the Beverly Hills rental market, according to Realtor.com.

A Beverly Hills house once occupied by James Van Der Beek and his family is back for rent at $13,950 a month, according to Realtor.com, five months after the actor’s death.
Realtor.com reported that Van Der Beek, known for “Dawson’s Creek” and “Varsity Blues,” died on Feb. 11 at age 48 after cancer. He had lived in the California home with his wife, Kimberly, and their children before the family moved to Texas in 2020.
The rental listing, held by Terri Scheid of Vision Realty, Inc., shows a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home spanning just over 3,100 square feet. Realtor.com said the listing does not include a written description, though photos show many of the Spanish-style elements seen when the Van Der Beeks lived there.
The asking price marks a rise from 2021, when the property was offered at $11,000 a month, according to Realtor.com. The site also said the home is already marked as being in high demand.
A Beverly Hills home with a celebrity past
At the time the Van Der Beeks lived there, Realtor.com said it was widely reported that the couple owned the Beverly Hills property, now estimated to be worth about $4 million. Property records cited by Realtor.com indicate the family leased the home.
Those records show the property is registered to a trust connected to Rochelle and Donald Sterling, the billionaire real estate figures and former Los Angeles Clippers owners, according to Realtor.com.
Before leaving California, James and Kimberly Van Der Beek updated the home with designer Tammy Price, a project later featured by Architectural Digest. Realtor.com said the couple wanted a home that could feel calm while still working for a lively household.
In that Architectural Digest feature, Van Der Beek said the family had not previously had much time to design their home because of work and raising children. Kimberly Van Der Beek told the magazine that movable indoor-outdoor furniture was a priority because of their kids and frequent visitors.
The home includes hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings with exposed beams, a wood-burning fireplace, a roomy kitchen with dining space, French doors opening to the yard, balconies, a pool and a small poolhouse, according to Realtor.com. The primary suite includes a large bathroom with a soaking tub, green-tiled shower and walk-in closet.
The family’s move to Texas
The Van Der Beeks left California for Spicewood, Texas, in 2020, after pandemic lockdowns and after deciding they wanted more access to nature for their children, according to Realtor.com. Kimberly previously said in an Instagram Live video from their home that the amount of space in Texas felt necessary for a large family.
The family first leased a 36-acre ranch in Texas, telling People magazine they wanted to try the area for a year before buying, Realtor.com reported. Records cited by the site show the couple later bought the ranch on Jan. 9 for $4.76 million through an LLC managed by a California attorney.
Realtor.com said the Texas property includes a 5,149-square-foot main house with five bedrooms and three bathrooms, several cabins, a pool, a barn, outdoor living areas, balconies with river views and a tram to the Pedernales River.
The Beverly Hills property offers a very different setup: a 7,645-square-foot lot with a backyard pool and multiple openings to the outdoor space. For renters with nearly $14,000 a month to spend, Realtor.com’s listing puts the former Van Der Beek home back in play.
