Adley Rutschman and Max Meyer join shrinking IL stash crunch
CBS Sports’ Scott White says fantasy managers have less room for patience as late-season injury timelines tighten.

Adley Rutschman and Max Meyer are the latest prominent fantasy names forcing managers to make hard calls on injured-list spots, according to CBS Sports fantasy analyst Scott White.
White’s updated injury stash rankings frame the problem bluntly: the season is already short on runway. He notes that less than 40 percent of the schedule remains by game count, and head-to-head leagues can turn September, or even the end of August, into playoff time.
That makes a fresh IL stint more dangerous for fantasy teams. White writes that players returning late may need time to shake off rust, and starting pitchers often need extra build-up before they can help at full strength.
The top stashes are close enough to matter
At the very top of White’s list is Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz, who is working back from a sprained thumb. White reports that Kurtz has resumed hitting and fielding and traveled with the club this week, which points to a possible weekend activation.
Ronald Acuña Jr. sits second in the rankings. The Braves outfielder is on a rehab assignment after a strained hamstring, and White reports Atlanta wants his timing locked in before bringing him back, with a return possible later this week.
Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez ranks third while recovering from a fractured hamate bone. White reports Ramirez may be closer than public timelines have suggested and may not require a rehab assignment.
Yankees starter Max Fried is fourth after throwing 50 pitches in his first rehab start Friday while recovering from an elbow bone bruise. White says Fried may need only one more rehab outing before rejoining New York.
Rutschman and Meyer enter the decision zone
Rutschman, the Baltimore Orioles catcher, is No. 10 on White’s list with wrist inflammation. White describes the issue as appearing mild and says Rutschman could be back before the end of July.
Meyer, the Miami Marlins starter, lands at No. 13 after going down with a strained neck. White reports the problem first surfaced two turns earlier and that Meyer tried to pitch through it. His earliest possible return is listed as Aug. 4.
Edwin Diaz also remains a premium stash. White ranks the Los Angeles Dodgers reliever sixth as he works back from loose bodies in his elbow, with back-to-back rehab appearances this week described as the next step toward a possible weekend return.
Aaron Judge is a trickier case at No. 7. White reports re-imaging on July 15 showed the Yankees slugger was not ready for baseball activity as he recovers from a rib stress fracture, and New York’s cautious approach could keep him sidelined until September.
Pitching timelines add the squeeze
Kyle Harrison, ranked eighth, has forearm tightness, but White reports his MRI showed no structural damage and that he responded well after a bullpen session. He could return when eligible on July 27.
Ranger Suarez, ninth, has been fielding and throwing while recovering from a groin strain and could return when eligible Tuesday, according to White.
Carlos Rodon is 11th after elbow inflammation, two rounds of PRP injections and a return to mound work. White says he could be back within two to three weeks.
Blake Snell is 12th after going 1 1/3 innings in his first rehab start Saturday while recovering from loose bodies in his elbow. White expects he will likely need three or four more rehab starts.
White’s message for fantasy managers is clear enough: stash the stars who are close, question the timelines that stretch deep into August, and treat every IL slot like it has a ticking clock attached.
