The Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets get a solo MLB spotlight Thursday, and CBS Sports is pairing the 7:10 p.m. ET game with a BetMGM sign-up offer and a trio of SportsLine betting picks.
According to CBS Sports, the BetMGM bonus code CBSSPORTS is available to new users and can return $150 in bonus bets if a first bet wins, or up to $1,500 in bonus bets if a qualifying first wager loses. The offer depends on where the user is located, CBS Sports said.
CBS Sports also discloses that its betting page may include affiliate links, and that it may earn a commission if readers click, sign up, deposit money or place a wager.
SportsLine’s Thursday card
SportsLine listed three plays for the Mets-Phillies game at BetMGM Sportsbook, covering the moneyline, game total and a player prop.
- Mets to beat the Phillies at +110
- Mets vs. Phillies under 9.5 total runs at -110
- Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola under 16.5 total outs at -115
SportsLine expert Jeff Hochman picked the Mets as an underdog at +110. CBS Sports said Hochman pointed to a historical angle involving the All-Star Game host team playing at home after the break.
According to Hochman’s analysis cited by CBS Sports, those host teams are 8-15 since 2002 in that setup, including 2-6 since 2017. He also said he preferred the Mets’ Christian Scott in the pitching matchup against Aaron Nola. CBS Sports reported that Hochman noted the Phillies are playing Thursday, while the host teams in his cited trend had played on Friday.
Total and pitching prop picks
SportsLine expert Matt Severance selected the under on 9.5 total runs. CBS Sports reported that Severance raised the possibility that Phillies manager Don Mattingly could rest Kyle Schwarber or Bryce Harper after their All-Star activities on Monday and Tuesday, with Philadelphia also off Friday.
Severance also cited rested bullpens for both clubs behind Christian Scott and Aaron Nola, according to CBS Sports. He described Scott as having pitched well enough and Nola as improved lately compared with earlier struggles, CBS Sports reported.
The third listed play came from SportsLine prop betting expert Prop Bet Guy Doug, who picked Nola to finish under 16.5 outs. CBS Sports said Doug cited Nola going under that number in 14 of 19 starts, including all eight at home, where his ERA was listed at 6.81.
Doug also pointed to Nola’s work against left-handed hitters, according to CBS Sports, saying his walk rate rises to 10.8% and his pitches per plate appearance reach 4.20. He projected that the Mets could start six or seven lefties and said Nola had been removed at 86 pitches or fewer in seven of his previous 11 starts.
SportsLine also promoted broader picks for Thursday across sports, saying its Projection Model simulates every game 10,000 times.
