The caitlin clark technical rescinded update is in: the WNBA threw out the call that briefly put the Indiana Fever guard’s next game in doubt. Clark remains on seven technical fouls and will be available when Indiana hosts the New York Liberty on Tuesday, according to IndyStar.
A WNBA spokesperson told IndyStar shortly after Saturday’s Fever-Sky game that the technical had been rescinded. The decision followed an immediate appeal from Indiana after its 90-86 win over Chicago on Aug. 8.
Why was Caitlin Clark’s technical foul rescinded?
The league did not provide a reason for the reversal in the reporting available. The call itself came after a disputed sequence late in the third quarter.
IndyStar reported that Chicago guard Natasha Cloud bumped Clark out of bounds near the baseline, after which Clark made contact with official Genesis Perrymond. Fever coach Stephanie White said officials told her Clark was judged to have intentionally sought out the referee.
White disputed that interpretation, describing the contact as incidental. Clark also said after the game that it was not intentional and said she hoped the league would reverse the decision, according to CBS Sports.
Fever general manager Amber Cox sent the appeal before players reached the postgame media room, IndyStar reported. The league’s response arrived quickly enough to settle Clark’s status for the Liberty matchup the same night.
What does the reversal mean for the Fever?
It means Clark will not miss Tuesday’s home game against New York at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Reports that she faced a one-game suspension reflected the situation before the WNBA acted on Indiana’s appeal.
The rescission changes Clark’s running total from what would have been eight technical fouls back to seven, according to IndyStar. For the Fever, the immediate question is no longer whether their star guard can play against the Liberty. She can.
