Caitlin Clark’s technical rescinded before Liberty-Fever matchup
The WNBA rescinded Caitlin Clark’s eighth technical, clearing her for Indiana’s game against New York before it tipped off.

Caitlin Clark’s technical rescinded status settled the biggest question before Indiana’s Aug. 11 meeting with New York: she was eligible to play. The WNBA withdrew the technical foul that had put Clark at the season threshold for a one-game suspension, according to the Associated Press.
Clark received her eighth technical of the season during Indiana’s Aug. 8 win over Chicago. AP reported that eight technicals would have triggered a one-game ban, but the league’s reversal meant Clark would not miss the Liberty game.
CBS Sports reported the call stemmed from contact with an official during the Chicago game. The crew chief said the official judged the contact intentional, CBS Sports reported, before the technical was rescinded less than two hours later.
Why was Caitlin Clark eligible against the Liberty?
Clark was eligible because the technical itself was rescinded, rather than because a suspension was later lifted. Removing that eighth technical left no one-game suspension for her to serve, AP reported.
The official WNBA player page lists Clark at 21.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 8.1 assists per game in 2026. In the Aug. 8 game against Chicago, she finished with 26 points and 11 assists as the Fever won 90-86, according to the league’s box score.
The Liberty-Fever matchup was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT on Aug. 11, with New York at 20-13 and Indiana at 20-12, the WNBA’s Fever team page showed before tipoff. That matchup was no longer a pregame proposition by the time the official scoreboard was checked: a Fever page showed Indiana ahead 42-30 with 5:15 left in the second quarter.
That means time-sensitive odds and betting recommendations published before the game should not be treated as current advice.
There was still plenty of recent form behind the matchup. AP reported that New York had won four straight games and seven of its previous eight, though Indiana had beaten the Liberty by 20 shortly before that run began. The Liberty had also just beaten Las Vegas by 40, in a game where the Aces rested A’ja Wilson, Chelsea Gray and Jackie Young, AP reported.
The immediate news, though, was Clark’s availability. A suspension that initially appeared set to remove her from a marquee game never took effect after the league erased the technical that prompted it.
