According to Schefter’s report, Brissett can earn as much as $21 million if he hits incentives in the revised agreement. ESPN reported that the restructuring did not add any extra years, leaving Brissett on track to reach free agency after the season.
The move comes after a spring in which Brissett pressed for changes to his deal. ESPN reported that he missed most of Arizona’s voluntary offseason program and then staged a hold-in during mandatory minicamp while seeking a contract adjustment.
A hold-in means a player reports to the team but limits or withholds participation, often while contract talks continue. In Brissett’s case, ESPN reported that he returned to full action for the Cardinals’ first training camp practice on Thursday.
