Jerry Jeudy video chatter took over the Browns corner of the internet Sunday after a clip appeared to show the Cleveland wide receiver signaling a quarterback preference, and Jeudy quickly pushed back on X.
The clip, described by ESPN as a TikTok video, shows Jeudy holding up four fingers during a livestream. Many viewers read that as a nod to Deshaun Watson, who wears No. 4, while Watson and Shedeur Sanders compete for Cleveland’s starting quarterback job.
Jeudy said the clip did not tell the full story. In a post on X on Sunday, he wrote: “Yall cut the clip perfectly for that narrative.”
ESPN reported that the video appears to contain an edit, with a visible jump between the moment Jeudy raises his fingers and the point where the question is shown.
Did Jerry Jeudy pick the Browns starting quarterback?
Jeudy said he was not weighing in on a decision that belongs to coach Todd Monken. In another post on X, he said he supports his teammates, focuses on his own role and controls only what he can.
“I don't speak on decisions that aren't mine to make. I support my teammates/Brothers, I do my job, and control what I can control,” Jeudy wrote, according to ESPN. “Let's stop creating narrative that aren't there for likes and clicks. I bet this won't go viral because it's too positive/real for y'all.”
The Browns’ quarterback question is set to carry into training camp. ESPN reported that Watson and Sanders divided first-team practice snaps during the offseason workout program.
What is the Browns quarterback competition?
The Browns have not named a starter, according to ESPN, with Watson and Sanders still in contention for the job. A quarterback competition is the period when coaches use practices and camp work to decide which player will open games as the starter.
Watson is entering the final season of his fully guaranteed $230 million contract. ESPN reported that the 30-year-old is healthy after undergoing a second surgery in January 2025 to repair another Achilles rupture, an injury that kept him out for the 2025 season.
Sanders is heading into his second NFL season. ESPN reported that he started seven games as a rookie.
Monken had praise for both quarterbacks during the offseason program, according to ESPN. The coach said Sanders has “really come a long way” and said Watson’s “athleticism shows up.”
For Jeudy, the public message was direct: do not turn a clipped livestream moment into a declaration about Cleveland’s quarterback room. The decision, he said, is not his to make.
