Jurgen Klopp is the new Germany coach, CBS Sports reported Friday, putting the former Liverpool manager back on the touchline after two years in a global soccer role at Red Bull.

According to CBS Sports’ Francesco Porzio, Germany unveiled Klopp on Friday and he is expected to lead the national team for the next four years, including at the 2030 World Cup. His first scheduled look comes in September against the Netherlands in UEFA Nations League play, the report said.

Who is Jurgen Klopp coaching now?

Klopp is coaching the German national team, according to CBS Sports. The appointment marks his return to managing after his spell as head of global soccer at Red Bull following his time at Liverpool.

At his unveiling, Klopp framed the job as a serious, high-pressure comeback. “The day you don't want me anymore, I'm gone -- without any severance pay,” Klopp said at Friday’s press conference, according to CBS Sports. He added that criticism of his work is fair, while saying his family should be left alone.

Klopp also said he wants a hands-on role beyond matchday selection. “I want to get very involved in the structures,” he said, according to CBS Sports. “Whoever brings in Jurgen, gets Jurgen.”

The new boss inherits a Germany setup with young attacking talent, including Florian Wirtz and Jamal Musiala, CBS Sports noted. The report described the task as getting Germany back toward the top of international soccer, with the federation betting Klopp can drive that push.

MLS schedule picks up after the World Cup

The coaching news lands as the club calendar gets moving again following the end of the 2026 World Cup. CBS Sports listed several MLS matches for Saturday, July 25, as the league resumes its season.

European clubs are also preparing for the next campaign, with CBS Sports listing a Saturday friendly between Liverpool and Sunderland at 6 p.m. on ESPN Deportes.
