Paige Bueckers will miss the Dallas Wings’ Monday game against the New York Liberty, one night after a collision sent her out of a win over the Los Angeles Sparks.
The Wings said Monday that Bueckers was cleared of a concussion after what the team described as “an extensive post-game evaluation” following Sunday’s game, according to ESPN. Dallas said she remains sore, but is not in the WNBA’s concussion protocol.
Her status beyond Monday has not been settled, the team said.
What happened against the Sparks
Bueckers left Dallas’ 90-82 victory over Los Angeles with about 3 1/2 minutes remaining, ESPN reported. The incident came after Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike, who had been fouled, collided with Bueckers while falling to the court.
ESPN reported that Bueckers appeared to strike the back of her head on the floor during the play. Video carried by ESPN showed Bueckers heading to the locker room after the collision.
The injury update lands at a busy point for Dallas. The Wings were scheduled to face the Liberty on Monday in a game listed by ESPN as a makeup from July 16. The matchup was set for 8 p.m. ET, with Dallas entering at 17-8 and New York at 13-12, according to ESPN’s scoreboard.
Dallas loses its leading rookie for at least one game
Bueckers has been one of the central figures in the Wings’ season. ESPN listed her averages at 20.9 points, 6.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game.
Dallas has not announced a return date. The team’s next game after the Liberty matchup is Wednesday at Portland, ESPN reported, before the Wings head into the All-Star break.
For now, the clearest news for Dallas is the medical update: Bueckers is out Monday, still dealing with soreness, and the Wings say she does not have a concussion.
