Rays roll, Rangers blank White Sox as CBS Sports tracks deadline buzz
CBS Sports’ July 21 MLB board featured several lopsided finals, two postponements and a trade-deadline spotlight on Tarik Skubal.

The Tampa Bay Rays put up the loudest number on CBS Sports’ July 21 MLB scoreboard, beating the Toronto Blue Jays 12-2 in one of several one-sided finals across the league.
CBS Sports listed the Texas Rangers’ 10-0 win over the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Cubs’ 11-2 victory against the Detroit Tigers as the other double-digit blowouts on the night. The San Diego Padres also had a comfortable road result, defeating the Atlanta Braves 8-3.
The board had a few tight ones, too. CBS Sports showed the Los Angeles Dodgers edging the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1, the Kansas City Royals beating the San Francisco Giants 3-2, and the Arizona Diamondbacks taking a 6-5 game from the Athletics in 10 innings.
MLB scores crowd the board
According to CBS Sports, the New York Mets shut out the Milwaukee Brewers 4-0, while the Cleveland Guardians beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2. The Houston Astros topped the Miami Marlins 5-3, the Colorado Rockies beat the Washington Nationals 8-7, the Los Angeles Angels defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2.
Two games did not get played as scheduled. CBS Sports marked Pirates-Yankees and Orioles-Red Sox as postponed, with betting lines still displayed beside the matchups.
CBS Sports also packaged video highlights for several of the completed games, including Athletics-Diamondbacks, Reds-Mariners, Cardinals-Angels, White Sox-Rangers, Tigers-Cubs, Nationals-Rockies, Rays-Blue Jays, Mets-Brewers, Marlins-Astros, Twins-Guardians, Padres-Braves and Dodgers-Phillies.
Deadline chatter gets top billing
Away from the score strip, CBS Sports put the MLB trade deadline in the spotlight with a predictions piece centered on Tarik Skubal and possible active teams before the Aug. 3 deadline. Another MLB item on the site focused on rumors involving the Yankees’ bullpen targets and the Tigers’ wish list for Skubal.
The NFL also had a busy presence on the CBS Sports homepage. Featured coverage included a quarterback debate naming Caleb Williams and Bo Nix among overrated passers and Dak Prescott among underrated ones entering the season, plus a look at top farewell seasons as Aaron Rodgers tries to shape his own finish.
NBA coverage included a LeBron James item centered on the idea that his current situation does not have to be limited to one season, according to CBS Sports. The site also carried a Heat item explaining that a LeBron-related “introductory” video was posted by mistake.
Other featured items ranged across college football, the WNBA and golf. CBS Sports highlighted a review of 2023 five-star college football recruits, a piece on Caitlin Clark and other stars opting out of a WNBA 3-point contest, and betting coverage for the PGA Tour’s 3M Open after Scottie Scheffler appeared in the field.
