The cornfield catwalk is back, and the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies now have the outfits for it.
Major League Baseball announced Monday the special uniforms the two clubs will wear on Aug. 13 for the next Field of Dreams game in Dyersville, Iowa, according to ESPN. It will be the third MLB game staged at the Field of Dreams park.
The Twins are going crisp and classic. Their uniform is white with navy pinstripes, with “Twins” across the chest in navy lettering trimmed in red. The final letter curls beneath the team name, giving the front of the jersey an old-school flourish.
Minnesota’s cap keeps to familiar territory: navy blue, with the club’s interlocked white “T” and red “C” on the front.
The jersey sleeve carries the “Minnie and Paul” logo, a nod to the mark created in 1961. According to ESPN, the patch appeared on the Twins’ home uniforms from 1961 through 1986, and on their road uniforms from 1961 through 1971 and again from 1973 through 1986.
The logo also has a current home in Minneapolis. ESPN noted that “Minnie and Paul” is featured on a 46-foot display above center field at Target Field, where it lights up whenever a Twins player hits a home run.
Philadelphia’s look reaches farther back. The Phillies’ uniform is based on the club’s road style from 1939 to 1941, according to ESPN.
The Phillies will wear gray, with a red “Phillies” wordmark slanted across the chest and outlined in navy. Their cap is navy blue with a bold red “P,” keeping the rest of the look clean and direct.
Like Minnesota, Philadelphia gets a special sleeve patch. ESPN reported that the patch is a replica of one the Phillies wore in 1939, when baseball marked what was then believed to be the sport’s 100th anniversary.
That celebration was tied to the old claim that Abner Doubleday invented baseball in 1839. ESPN cited History.com in noting that the Doubleday origin story has since been disputed as a myth.
MLB’s Field of Dreams series began in 2021, when the Chicago White Sox beat the New York Yankees 9-8. The league returned in 2022, with the Chicago Cubs defeating the Cincinnati Reds 4-2.
The Cubs-Reds matchup had been the most recent MLB game at the Iowa site. ESPN reported that the location, next to where the 1989 film “Field of Dreams” was shot, has gone through renovation and expansion work since then.
Now the Twins and Phillies get the next turn, with a throwback uniform duel set for the ballpark beside the movie field.
